How does kindergarten enrolment work in Bayside?

Thanks for your interest. We know the process can be a bit daunting if you haven’t done it before, so we’re here to help. To see our session times, please view our Timetable and Fees page (2024 or 2025).

We have an open day scheduled for Saturday 20 April, 2024 9.30am - 12 noon

How do we enrol?

All enrolments must be completed through the Bayside Council central enrolment system, and we are unable to enrol your child directly through our kinder.

Register via Bayside Council in the year before your child is due to begin kindergarten. (Please note that you will need to register again for four-year-old even if you are already with us in our three-year-old program). If you miss this window, late registration can be completed through the council however priority will be given to on time registrations.  Children in our 3-year-old program will automatically be given preference for 4-year-old program, including session choice.

When do we enrol?

Before you begin, please check that your child meets the age requirements, as your child must have turned three before they can start kindergarten.

4YO – Your child must turn four before 30th April

3YO – Your child must turn three before 30th April

No Jab No Play laws require that all children attending pre-school must be immunised. Children must have an up to date immunisation status and an immunisation certificate from Medicare will be required. For more information, please visit Immunisations | Victorian Government.

If you are successful in securing a place at Livingston, you will receive an offer by email, which you will have seven days to accept or decline via the Bayside Kindergarten portal.

For further information about enrolments or current vacancies, please contact us.

Can my child repeat 3YO or 4YO kinder?

When to start your kinder journey

The Department of Education (DET) has stated a child can only have two years of funded kindergarten. Since 3YO kinder is funded from 2022, this means your child may only attend two years of kindergarten in total—3YO and 4YO-- before he or she will begin school.

This means that once your child starts 3YO kinder, he or she must move to 4YO kinder the following year, without exception.

We often have families requesting to pay the full fees for an extra year of 3YO kinder. Unfortunately, this is not an option, as the place will be required for another child who is attending as a funded placement.

Children also cannot repeat 4YO kinder unless they show assessed delays in learning and development outcomes, which must be approved by the DET. Unfortunately it is not an option to pay the full fees for an extra year of 4YO kinder.

Since repeating 3YO kinder is no longer an option, it is very important for families to understand what this timeline will mean for your child.

We therefore ask all families who have children born between January and April to really consider whether your child is ready to start their kindergarten and school journey.
